I am Beverly Britnell, Billing Specialist and Front Office Staff, and I was so moved by a recent personal experience that I wanted to share it with our readers. Last week my 76 year old mother fell and was taken to Presbyterian Main emergency room where it was determined that her injured hip was only dislocated or out of joint and could be put back into place with quick sedation. We didn’t have to wait very long before a nice young man came and introduced himself, explained what he was going to do and sent us to the waiting room. We barely got comfortable and here comes the nurse to get us, the procedure was done, our mom was fine and they were her preparing to go home.
The point to this whole story is that the young man who introduced himself gave only his first and last name…..no DOCTOR before it – that’s because he was a PA or Physician Assistant. Here was a young man that happened to be a physician’s assistant, who was just as capable and competent to work on my mom as any medical doctor. He did an outstanding job diagnosing and treating my mom.
At Charlotte Skin & Laser we have a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner, Laurie Nelson, who has over 15 years experience in dermatology – 10 of them working with Dr. Rostan. After graduating from Vanderbilt University with a graduate degree as nurse practitioner, Laurie pursued specialized training to work in the field of dermatology. She, like Dr. Rostan, has her own schedule and her own patients that she is able to diagnose and treat as needed. If she should ever need a second opinion, she always has Dr. Rostan here to consult. Laurie is very good at what she does and she is our “Acne Specialist.” Dermatology is her passion so she stays on top of the latest and greatest skin treatments. She has helped many of our patients hold their heads up and smile again! She is very good with the patients and is a very sweet person.
I know that if you aren’t in the medical field that you may not realize what kind of training and education the NP (nurse practitioner) may have and when offered an appointment with her you might hesitate but you shouldn’t. She has years of education, training and experience behind her. But most of all she has the backing and support of Dr. Rostan and the staff here at Charlotte Skin & Laser.
If you need an appointment give Laurie Nelson, NP the opportunity to help you resolve your skin issues.
